The Parsippany Library is excited to announce our fourth annual Community Read Program, a literary initiative that encourages residents of all ages to come together, read, and discuss a thought-provoking book.
We invite the community to assist us in choosing the book for 2025!
The choices are:
- Deacon King Kong by James McBride – A vibrant novel set in 1969 Brooklyn, following the aftermath of an aging church deacon’s seemingly inexplicable shooting of a young drug dealer, unraveling a rich tapestry of community, crime, and redemption.
- North Woods by Daniel Mason – A sweeping historical novel that traces the lives, mysteries, and echoes of those who inhabit a single house in the New England woods over centuries, revealing the interconnectedness of past and present.
- Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro – A poignant speculative novel about an Artificial Friend observing human emotions, love, and loneliness as she hopes to bring happiness to the sickly girl who chooses her.
- Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino – A novel that follows a woman who believes she is an alien sent to observe human life, as she navigates her existence from 1970s Philadelphia to adulthood, chronicling her experiences and reflections on humanity.
- Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy – A haunting literary thriller about a biologist reintroducing wolves to the Scottish Highlands, only to find herself entangled in a mysterious death that threatens both her mission and her sense of belonging.
- Shark Heart by Emily Habeck – A “beautifully written” debut novel of marriage, motherhood, metamorphosis, and letting go, this intergenerational love story begins with newlyweds Wren and her husband, Lewis—a man who, over the course of nine months, transforms into a great white shark.
