While the Parsippany Library has traditionally offered free tax preparation services for our patrons, we will not be providing tax assistance for the 2025 tax year (filing in 2026). We understand this service has been valuable to many, and we encourage you to explore several trusted local tax assistance options available throughout New Jersey.
Below are community resources that offer tax preparation help for eligible individuals and families:
• Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) & Free Tax Filing Sites
The NJ 211 Partnership maintains a list of VITA and other free tax help locations across the state. These programs can help with federal and New Jersey tax returns and may include in-person, remote, or drop-off options.
• United Way of Northern New Jersey — Free Tax Prep
United Way offers free tax preparation support to households with low and moderate incomes through IRS-trained volunteers, ensuring that all eligible deductions and credits are claimed.
• AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program
AARP’s nationwide Tax-Aide network offers free tax assistance for qualifying taxpayers (especially those age 50+ or with low to moderate income). Use their site locator tool to find a nearby site and schedule appointments.
• NJ Government Resources
The State of New Jersey’s Basic Needs Tax Assistance hub links to multiple free and community-based tax support services, including VITA and other programs.
