The Parsippany Library’s third annual Community Read program returns with free, themed events during the fall of 2024. The Community Read initiative encourages town discussions and promotes reading across all ages through one story. This year’s book selection is the New York Times bestseller, Crying in H Mart: A Memoir by Michelle Zauner. In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother’s particular, high expectations of her; of painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother’s tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food. The Community Read program is free and open to all ages. Participants can pick up a copy of “Crying in H Mart: A Memoir” at the Parsippany Library. The memoir is available in print, eBook, and eAudio. In conjunction with the exploration of this story, the community is invited to participate in Community Reads book-themed events. In addition, the following special events will take place:
  • Book Discussion Groups
  • Cookbook Group
  • Dance Parties
