1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program designed to encourage parents to read to their young children to expose them to a wide range of books and to help promote early literacy.

• Any child who has not yet entered Kindergarten is eligible to participate
• Parents/Guardians must register their child or children on Beanstack. You can download the app on Google Play or via the Apple Store
• There is no required list of books to read-Read what you and your child like!
• Books may be counted more than once
• If you are reading to more than one registered child at the same time, the book counts for each child
• At each level of 100 books, children and their guardian should check in at the library. They will earn a planet pin at each level and you will have the opportunity to take a picture of your child with the appropriate commemorative sign for that level

Checking in at the library:

• You can check-in your child’s progress to a staff member at the library by showing your progress on the app. You may visit the Children’s Department at either the Parsippany Main Library or Lake Hiawatha Branch
• At each level your child will earn a prize
