Nineteen years ago, Chef Matthew Pierone of Parsippany’s Gourmet Café introduced “Make a Difference Mondays” to lend a hand to non-profits who serve the Parsippany community. The Friends of the Library have been among his grateful recipients for all those years.

Chef Pierone talks about how this all began.

“My ‘Make a Difference Monday’ program developed because I received many requests for donations and fundraisers. Since I was raised Catholic, I thought of the idea to tithe one day a week, hence the 10 percent.”

On Monday, October 29, Chef Pierone donated 10% of all his lunch, dinner and takeout proceeds to the Friends of the Library.  

He says, “I love supporting the library because of my love books and learning. Plus, I feel that the library is a vital part of the community since it is a great resource for both our youth and the young at heart.”

To date, he has contributed over $101,000 to 40 local organizations.
