Friends of the Library

FriendsCelebrate the Friend’s 30th Anniversary

A SPECIAL Announcement!

It is not too late to participate in the 30 Club . The Friends of the Library are trying to reach a goal of raising $30,000- through individual donations-to enhance literacy initiatives.

Here is how the funds will be used to:

Develop language literacy skills in children by hiring presenters to teach sign language classes.

Develop language literacy in both adults and children by purchasing language Playaways.  Language Playaways allow a person to easily learn a foreign language by giving them the opportunity to borrow a self-contained audio unit. Sponsor “Live Well, Age Smart”  a series planned for adults in our community. The topics will include music; art: literature and history. These programs will help to develop the cultural literacy of our community.

Develop their technological literacy skills. Presenters will be hired to teach classes in the Library’s tech lab so that residents can learn more about technology and develop their skills through our Makerspace equipment.

Thank you to all who have participated. We have achieved 1/3 of our goal. If you would like to be a part of this exciting initiative, please click on the link below and bring your check or money into any of our library locations!

Established in 1984, the Friends of the Library is a volunteer, 501C3 organization. Their membership consists of local residents committed to enhancing library services.  The Friends hold fundraising events throughout the year.  All funds raised in our summer fundraising events, Macy’s “Shop for a Cause” day goes specifically towards the Summer Reading Club.  A significant percentage of the Friends income comes from membership dues and Book Nook sales, our book store. By becoming a member of the Friends, you receive a copy of the Friends bi-annual newsletter and invitations to special functions.  You can become active in this organization noting it on your application form.  The Friends are constantly looking for new members.  Whether you are new to the area or have been a Parsippany resident for many years or a lifetime we can use your help.  If you can commit to helping with various fundraising projects, usually 2-3 hours per event or have a love for the library, please consider becoming a member of the Friends.
